A hey look, a wedding...?

So my friend got married this summer in the Oakland temple. Halfway through the couple's photo shoot, we saw this lovely crowd. It was just too good to not be photographed. I had never heard of a Quinceañera before but apparently this is a pretty accurate portrait of what they look like.

1. You don't know me, but your blog is funny so I read it.

2. I live out near Oakland and there are frequently random wedding parties (people who aren't even LDS) taking wedding photos at the temple.

3. Those Quinceañera dresses are hideous.

My name is Maryn Smith (Muh-rin

Sm-ih-th). However, Maryn is not one of those names that can be shortened easily. Unless you take out all the vowels, which sounds a lot like 'Mern'. So my friends always called me Mern. Much later, I was talking to someone who was trying to find me on what was probably a very important list and she asked me what my name was and I said Maryn. And she looked at her list of highly influential and attractive people and eventually asked, "Smith?" I said yes and carried on to my very important business. As we walked off, my friend Caitlan said, "You totally should have said, 'No actually it's pronounced Smeet-er... the 'h' is silent.'"

And that is how I became

Mern Smeether.
